Optic Lab

The Optics-Lab hosts diverse optical instruments. A stand with different light sources is available for macro-scale photography. Different scanners are available for digital imaging including rock thin-sections. Two binocular microscopes exist, with and without a camera for digital imaging. A conventional petrographic microscope including a camera is equipped with reflected and transmitted light for microphotography. A UV-microscope can be used for UV, transmitted and reflected light imaging and is additionally equipped with a MIA (multiple imaging analyzer) stage. A computer controlled point-counting system, and a GEOVISION instrument (computer aided polarization microscope) are located in this Lab. In addition, an AFM-instrument is also housed in the Optics-Lab (see more information on the AFM-homepage).
